Arctech has launched a dual array, single axis solar tracker for use in different climates and topographies.
Arctech, a Chinese supplier photovoltaic of tracking, off-the-shelf and building-integrated (BIPV) systems, said it has released its latest solar tracking solution, SkyWings. The double row tracker is designed with bi-directional swivels and a multi-point drive mechanism.
He said SkyWings combine the advantages of dual-row solar trackers and are compatible with undulating terrain, with high rigidity enabled by a multi-point drive design. Patented two-way rotary guides allow two rows to move in sync.
The ripple tolerance of adjacent rows has been increased to 15% in both east/west and north/south directions. The modular design allows flexibility in designing the layout of the facility in order to accommodate more photovoltaic units than conventional trackers under the same conditions, Arctech said.
SkyWings incorporate a multi-point drive mechanism and a specially designed torque tube – the patented triple D torque tube, which allows for horizontal positioning with higher stability.
The rack allows the units to sit flat, which prevents cracking and peeling, especially on newer large size units. SkyWings start to have problems at only 22 meters per second, which produces up to 2% more energy efficiency per year, leading to lower levelized energy costs.
The span can be extended by 10 meters, which the company said can reduce installation costs by up to 20% and total engineering, procurement and construction costs by up to 2%, compared to projects using traditional 1P trackers.
The trackers are controlled by second-generation AI-powered algorithms, calculating the optimal slope in various weather conditions and topographies. Arctech said real-time shadow avoidance can boost production by 8%.
In desert environments, the SkyWing tracker can be paired with Artech's cleaning robot, SkyWe.
