SolarEdge's new home energy management solution is the brains behind home power generation, battery backup and EV charging.
SolarEdge announced the North American launch of SolarEdge Home, a home energy management solution that is the "brain" of a solar installation. It concentrates solar panels, EV batteries and chargers in a solution that enables homeowners to control their home solar energy usage, energy savings and carbon emissions.
The DC-optimized power management system connects the inverter and battery on the DC side, eliminating the power conversions common in many battery-connected systems. SolarEdge estimates this can add up to 10 days of energy savings for each year of use. The optimized DC system also allows for several days of battery backup, which reduces grid dependency.
The system includes:
-SolarEdge Home Hub Inverter – a single, next-generation inverter platform
-SolarEdge Power Optimizers – a DC/DC converter that turns solar modules into smart modules and now features SolarEdge Sense Connect, a safety feature designed to prevent roof arcing faults.
-SolarEdge Home Battery – a proven 9540A battery that enables additional backup of switches, outlets and devices with up to 30% more power than legacy battery technology and up to 5% higher round trip performance.
-SolarEdge Home EV Charger – a fully controlled and programmable charger that easily connects to the SolarEdge Home Inverter and features Solar Boost Mode for faster charging.
Homeowners can use the mySolarEdge app to control, schedule and monitor their energy usage and savings, which will take into account external factors such as weather and rising utility rates. The app features a Weather Guard feature designed to automatically alert the system when a storm is detected and the system activates to charge the battery before the storm hits.
SolarEdge says the system simplifies the installation and commissioning process for installers because the DC-optimized system simplifies design, reduces the need for main panel upgrades and uses plug-and-play wireless connectivity, eliminating the need for wiring between elements.
“SolarEdge Home is designed to meet the needs of homeowners for older photovoltaics systems, more apps and seamless control through a single app.
Homeowners can also choose to add features and capabilities to their SolarEdge Home system as their home energy needs evolve and change.
