When attached to an EP Solar charge controller automatic temperature compensation is done of the absorb, float, and equalize Voltages. This is particularly important in cold climates, where the charging voltages can differ significantly due to temperature changes.
The sensor needs to be placed near or at the batteries so it follows the battery temperature.
