Swiss startup Solar Manager AG has designed a new energy management system that is compatible with inverters from Solaredge, Solax, Kostal, Fiemer, Fronius and other manufacturers.

Solar Manager AG of Switzerland has developed an energy management platform for PV systems combined with heat pumps. The system is compatible with inverters from Solaredge, Solax, Kostal, Fiemer, Fronius and other manufacturers. It is also compatible with more than 20 heat pumps.

"If compatibility with available devices is provided, our system can work with either residential or commercial installations," said CEO Andreas Kuhn.

The system can be used with a mobile app that allows users to visualize real-time household consumption data. It also offers an overview of the last seven days to show the amounts of solar energy produced and consumed by it, as well as how much electricity has been purchased from the grid.

The system supports two different ways of integrating a heat pump with one PV system. Integration via relay contact or via two relay contacts. With the latter, the heat pump can react immediately when excess solar energy is available.

Some heat pumps support integration via the internet, which allows for better control, as accurate values can be transmitted via a LAN interface. This interface offers two-way communication.

How it works

With Solar Manager, the heat pump uses photovoltaic power during the day. “The system can be purchased with either one photovoltaic system with either a heat pump,” explained Kuhn. "Almost 5.000 systems are now installed in Switzerland."

With the construction of a solar system, comes the need to consume as much of the solar energy produced as possible. This maximizes the profit of your PV system, respectively. minimizes the payback period. Solar Manager is a system that performs exactly this task. To this end, it offers self-consumption visualization and optimization.

To always see if there is a surplus or if electricity is drawn from the grid, Solar Manager offers a visualization of the most important key elements. This makes it possible to see at any time whether there is enough solar energy to activate a device (e.g. washing machine).

The big consumers of a private household today are heating, hot water, household appliances and soon also electric cars. These are designed to make optimal use of the solar energy they generate themselves. Unfortunately, these devices do not communicate with each other today and therefore cannot optimally share the surplus solar energy with each other. Devices may even compete with each other and turn on and off uncontrollably. Solar Manager prevents such a situation and distributes the available surplus solar energy to the connected devices. When solar power is limited, it prioritizes devices accordingly.

To allow easy access to Solar Manager data anytime and from anywhere, Solar Manager provides an app for customers. This is available for iOS and Android and provides access to all features.
