Victron Energy Phoenix Smart IP43 Charger 12/30 (3) 120-240V Battery Charger

Victron Energy Phoenix Smart IP43 Charger 12/30 (3) 120-240V: For boat owners, this custom 5-step charger can provide either 30A or 50A charge to each of the three battery banks. Or the model Phoenix 1+1 provides 3A to the starter battery, the rest to the "home" bank. 24V models available with 16A/25A charge. With Bluetooth enabled, you can monitor your charger and set alarms right from your phone. Adaptive, smart, dynamic charging capabilities – see datasheet below.

Bluetooth Smart enabled

Any Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, tablet, or other device can be used to monitor, change settings, and update the charger when new software features become available.

Phoenix Smart (1+1): two outputs for charging 2 battery packs

The second output, limited to about 3A and with a slightly lower output voltage, is for charging a starter battery.

Phoenix Smart (3): three full current outputs for charging 3 battery packs

Each output can supply the full rated output current. But the total of 3 outputs combined can never exceed the current rating of the charger.

Automatic voltage compensation

The charger compensates for the voltage drop across the DC wiring by slightly increasing the output voltage when the DC current increases. See the manual for details.

5-stage adaptive charging algorithm: volume – absorb – repair – float – store

The Phoenix Smart Charger features our well-known "adaptive" battery management system that can be pre-configured to suit different types of batteries. The "customizable" function will automatically optimize the charging process in relation to how the battery is used.

The right amount of charge: variable absorption time

When only shallow discharges occur (for example, a yacht connected to shore power), the absorption time is kept short to avoid overcharging the battery. After deep discharge the absorption time is automatically increased to make sure the battery will be fully charged.

Excessive gas damage prevention: BatterySafe function

If, to quickly charge a battery, a high charge current is selected in combination with a high absorption voltage, the charger will prevent damage due to excess gas by automatically limiting the rate of voltage rise once the gas voltage is reached

Less maintenance and aging when the battery is not in use: storage function

The storage function is activated each time the battery has not been discharged for 24 hours. In storage mode, the buoyancy voltage is reduced to 2,2 V / cell (13,2 V for a 12 V battery) to minimize gas release and corrosion of the positive plates. Once a week the voltage rises again to the level of absorption to "balance" the battery. This feature prevents electrolyte stratification and sulfation, a major cause of premature battery failure.

Also charges Li-ion batteries (LiFePO4)

Charger on-off control can be implemented by connecting a relay or an open-collector optocoupler output from a Li-ion BMS to the remote on-off port.
Alternatively, complete control of voltage and current can be achieved with Bluetooth.

Fully programmable algorithm

charging The charging algorithm can be programmed with the help of Bluetooth or the VE.Direct interface.
Three pre-programmed algorithms can be selected with the function button (see specifications).

Enable/disable

remote control The on / off remote control consists of two terminals: Remote control H and Remote control L.
A remote on / off switch or relay contact can be connected between H and L.
Alternatively, the H pin can be pulled high or the L pin can be pulled low.
See the manual for details.

VE.Direct interface

For wired data connection to color control panel, computer or other devices.
Please refer to the VictronConnect app in the Downloads / Software section of our website.

Programmable relay

It can be programmed using the VE.Direct interface or a device
Bluetooth enabled for activation on alarm or other events.

A few words about Victron Energy chargers

Where are Victron chargers made?

In Holland. THE VictronEnergy, based in the Netherlands, has been manufacturing power conversion equipment since 1975 and has become known worldwide for producing reliable off-grid inverters/battery chargers and a wide range of quality, affordable solar controllers.

What are the categories of battery chargers?

There are two different types of battery chargers on the market today. Timer controlled chargers and smart chargers (also called smart chargers), each for a different budget, (Timer Controlled is less expensive) but more importantly, using two different technologies.

The Victron battery charger is an intelligent battery charger for lead acid and deep cycle batteries. The unit is designed for home or business use and features a compact size that can be placed under a counter or inside equipment cabinets.

What is a deep discharge battery?

A deep discharge battery is a lead-acid battery designed to be discharged and recharged regularly. Deep cycle batteries are used in applications where a high depth of discharge (DOD) is required, such as in renewable energy systems.

Lead-acid batteries work by converting chemical energy into electrical energy. The lead-acid battery was invented in 1859 by the French physicist Gaston Planté and is the oldest type of rechargeable battery. Lead-acid batteries consist of lead dioxide (PbO2) and spongy lead (Pb) electrodes in a sulfuric acid (H2SO4) electrolyte solution.

When a lead-acid battery discharges, the sulfate ions in the electrolyte are converted to sulfate radicals, which then react with the lead electrodes to form lead sulfate (PbSO4). During charging, the reverse reaction occurs and lead sulfate is converted back into sulfate ions.

The capacity of a lead-acid battery is usually measured in ampere-hours (Ah), which is the amount of current that can be delivered over time. Depth of discharge (DOD) is the percentage of capacity that has been depleted during discharge. For example, if a 100 Ah battery is discharged at 50 A for two hours, the DOD would be 50%.

Deep discharge batteries are designed to withstand repeated deep discharges. Which makes them ideal for renewable energy systems where energy production may not always be
