Types of perfumes: Osmotic families

All perfumes are different. However, many of them have common features. For this reason, different types of perfumes are usually grouped into olfactory families. Thus they indicate the general characteristics of the perfumes that compose them.

The classification into perfume families is based on the dominant fragrances of the perfume. It's not an exact science, it varies depending on who does it.

Flowers

Most women's fragrances contain floral notes, and many men's fragrances also contain a floral touch. When flowers are the dominant fragrance, we say that the fragrance belongs to the flower family, the most popular in the world of perfumes. Flowers are easy to recognize just by smelling them.

The aromas of rose and jasmine are almost always present in a floral fragrance. Many times the fragrance also contains notes of other flowers, such as peony, gardenia, tuberose, lily of the valley, freesia, magnolia, geranium or mimosa.

The flower family is extensive and has many "subfamilies". There are fragrances in which a flower provides the dominant aroma and others in which many are mixed. Some contain a hint of fruit or spice and most complement the floral aroma with notes of wood, musk, amber or vanilla.

Fruity

Fruity scents have become very popular in recent years. In its composition, the notes of ripe fruits can be distinguished. Mango, ripe fig, peach, pear, apple, raspberry and other summer delicacies. These are usually complemented by floral scents and shades of wood, musk, amber or vanilla.

They are natural and bright and evoke youth, joy and appetite for life.

Green

It is the only family of perfumes associated with one color. When you smell a green scent, you can see almost freshly cut grass, dew-covered plant stems, crisp leaves, pine needles in the forest air. Some women consider green to be masculine. In harmony with woody and floral notes, they can also become a favorite for a woman looking for a fresh, optimistic and unobstructed scent.

The green aromas evoke a bright, energetic optimistic and irreverent character. They usually contain notes of pine, grass, petitgrain, mint, lily of the valley and especially galvanic, which brings freshness and also amazing depth.

Aromatic

Most of the perfumes of this family are male. The main chords focus on aromatic herbs. Lavender, geranium, basil, cumin, rosemary and sage. They are often complemented by woody notes. They sometimes include shades of moss, patchouli and balsamic notes, which add warmth to the composition.

Their character is vital, assertive and persistent. They evoke clarity, vigor and intimacy.

Fern (Fougère)

Fougère family perfumes are very popular with men, although the first perfumes of this type were created for women. Most often, a Fougère contains lavender and oak moss. They also tend to have notes of geranium, vetiver, bergamot and coumarin.

The word Fougère means "Fern" in French, but they do not actually smell like ferns. They are fragrant, deep, with green notes. Their character is timeless, their aroma radiates energy and confidence.

Citrus

Citrus scents are usually suitable as unisex. Suitable for both men and women. Their compositions are based on lemon, orange, bergamot, grapefruit and mandarin and may also contain aromatic, floral and woody notes.

Citrus aromas evoke freshness and simplicity. It is ephemeral, because the notes of citrus are very volatile and tend to evaporate very quickly. The pleasure they provide focuses on the original, uplifting and optimistic feeling. They are ideal for summer, and suitable for young people in body or mind.

Cyprus

The aromas of the Cyprus family are warm, dry and deep. Most of the time, the main scent is an arrangement of oak moss, bergamot, patchouli and ladan. This fragrance is sometimes complemented by notes of flowers, fruits or woods.

Woody

Many perfumes of this family are male, others are unisex and some are undoubtedly feminine. Their composition focuses on sandalwood, cedar, oud, patchouli and vetiver. They also often contain notes of citrus, fruit, spicy, herbal or musk.

They are elegant, deep and long lasting fragrances. They evoke a calm, confident, warm and outgoing character.

East

The oriental family includes men's and women's perfumes. They are warm, sensual, sweet and spicy. They contain ingredients such as vanilla and tonka bean. They also tend to contain woody notes, especially sandalwood, which are often accompanied by spices and exotic flowers.

An oriental scent is usually seductive and voluptuous. Oriental is deep, "adult", suitable for use as a night perfume. Their aroma is intense and long lasting. Lately a subfamily of light oriental has become popular, offering a more casual and informal feel.

Musk

The perfumes of this family are warm and sensual. Their composition focuses on the various varieties of calf, complemented by floral notes of rose, jasmine, ylang and lily. They also tend to contain woody accords and amber notes.
