The spatial separation of the cooling section and the compressor prevents the flow of hot air, as is the case, for example, with mobile air conditioners. This makes these devices work more efficiently.
Compared to monoblock air conditioners, there is also the advantage that the system operates much quieter. The reason: The compressor is installed outside the building. This also has the advantage that it does not take up space inside. This is economical, especially for smaller apartments.
The disadvantage of this principle is the relatively complicated installation, as the external and internal parts have to be attached separately. In addition, it is necessary to drill the outer wall for the pipes. Acquisition and installation costs are therefore higher than for mobile devices. In addition, the supply air - in this case the outside air from the front - may be colder than the supply air from a central air conditioning position due to rain or wind. As a result, the air must be additionally heated, which can have a negative effect on energy efficiency.

With some systems, heating is also possible. To do this, the cooling section and the compressor simply change their function. For example, in the transition phase, when the central heating is no longer working or is still not working, air conditioning heating may be useful. However, not all devices are equipped with this feature. For example, air conditioning systems are manufactured by Mitsubishi Electric. The company also has very economical devices with A ++ or A +++ performance series in its series.
In addition, many split units are also air conditioners. These have the advantage that they can regulate their performance and thus cool more energy efficiently. The manufacturer Daikin, which is popular, produces such systems, among others. Models without inverter operate at full power until the desired temperature is reached and then switched off. This consumes more power and is also detrimental to the life of the device.
