India-based Solavio has developed the portable and cost-effective robotic cleaning solution Eco Bot, which is compatible with ground-based solar units and rooftop solar installations.

Indian startup Solavio has developed a very cost-effective, portable robotic cleaning solution for rooftop solar arrays and ground-mounted solar installations. The Eco Bot solution uses a tubular dry cleaning method to clean the panels through airflow and friction from an anti-static microfiber cloth.

"The speed of the robot and the cleaning unit can be modified based on the amount and type of dust," said Suraj Mohan, the co-founder of Solavio.

The bot, which has a built-in lithium battery, can be manually shifted to service other rows of panels. The anti-static microfiber cloth does not physically damage the panels.

"We've even used third-party certified global companies to test and certify the bot over an accelerated period (10.000 cycles) spanning the lifetime of the plant," Mohan said. "There are no restrictions on continuous use, thanks to our integrated electronic cooling chamber."

The battery uses Japanese cell technology and can be charged with a regular AC charger, a fast AC charger, a built-in photovoltaic panel, or a dedicated field dock.

Eco Bot is cloud-based, enabling remote monitoring, control and management of parts. Bots can be controlled via built-in buttons, a remote control, or an Internet of Things (IoT) dashboard.

Dust and other impurities are deposited on their surface solar panels reducing the intensity of solar radiation reaching the photovoltaic cells. Therefore, solar panels must be cleaned from time to time to minimize efficiency losses.

Aiming to overcome the problems associated with conventional solar panel cleaning methods for both rooftop and ground installations, Solavio Labs has created a new, fully autonomous modular solar cleaning robot designed to operate in any environment, sloped or constructed.

It also uses patented UV resistant DUPONT Tynex bristles in our brushes to ensure zero friction on the PV panel surface and maximum cleaning performance.
