Estonian startup Solarstone has developed two solar panels with an efficiency of up to 19,5% and an operating temperature coefficient of -0,41% per C. It recently secured €10 million in capital to expand sales across Europe.

Estonian startup Solarstone announced that it recently secured 10 million euros ($10,1 million) in its second round of funding. With these funds, Solarstone intends to expand its manufacturing of integrated solar PV solutions across Europe and beyond. The investment follows the 700th solar roof installation in eight countries.

Its Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) product portfolio mainly consists of three products. Two types of solar panels rated at 90W and 108W, respectively, and a rooftop solar system. We use solar panels from the world's leading manufacturers for our solar roof. We add patented aluminum technology, called the Click-On frame. Which turns a conventional solar panel into a waterproof material, said Solarstone CEO Silver Aednik. The result is an aesthetically pleasing two-in-one solar roof.

According to the manufacturer, the Click-On kit addresses the main problems faced by BIPV. Which are compatibility, scalability and installation complexity. Click-On panels are said to be compatible with the products of most Tier-1 solar panel manufacturers. The panels can be installed on site and even the most complex roof configurations can be handled with ease, the company said.

Specifications

One of two solar panel, the Solarstone 90W, has a power conversion efficiency of 19,5%, an open-circuit voltage of 11,22V and a short-circuit current of 9,58A. It measures 1.530mm x 395mm x 31mm and weighs 7kg.

The panel is based on eight 156mm x 156mm cells and 3,2mm prismatic glass.

The second panel, Solarstone 108 W, has a larger size of 1.824 mm x 389 mm x 22 mm and a weight of 8 kg. It has an efficiency of 19%, an open circuit voltage of 12,9 V and a short circuit current of 8,39 A.

Both solar panels come with a 10-year product warranty and a 25-year power efficiency warranty. They are built with an IP65 housing and have an operating temperature coefficient of -0,41% per C. The maximum system voltage for both products is 600V.

The Solar Roof system consists of standard PV panels equipped with Click-on technology and Aluminum Composite Panels (ACP). Its size is variable and it is suitable for domestic installations, parking lots and facades, said the CEO of the company. Noting that the panels can be installed in either a horizontal or vertical configuration.

"Currently, the headquarters and factory are located in Viljandi, Estonia," noted Silver. “As a manufacturing company we emphasize automation, one of the key areas in which we use the investment. Increasing production capacity and automating production lines will prepare us for growing demand."
